One of the greatest ways for you and your family to participate in Advent is to step out and serve. The gift of King Jesus was a sacrifice of love. Out of His love for us, God gave us Christ. Because we have received this love, we now get to give love to others.

This week we want to challenge ourselves to step out and love a family in need. This may look like having a family over for dinner, buying Christmas gifts for a family who could use some help this year, or simply having a conversation with someone who may be lonely during the holiday season.

It doesn’t matter what specific action you take; we just want to encourage everyone to do something this week to love a family in need!

Advent is not just a time for our individual hope to be stirred, but for our families and community to encounter hope as well. This is often done through enjoying the people around us and inviting them into fun. Here are some ideas on how to be intentional to celebrate this week with your family, friends, or Life Group:

  • Light the 1st candle on your advent wreath.
  • Make Christmas cards with your kids for their teachers.
  • Spend time around the table discussing what advent means and why we celebrate.

Prayer allows us to pause, getting our eyes off ourselves and focus on the face of King Jesus. He is the author of hope and prayer allows us to get His perspective. This week we are taking time to pray specifically for our local city and state governments.

We are challenging ourselves to set aside 5 minutes each day to pause and allow Jesus to paint a picture of hope for our local government through our prayers.
