Often in stepping out and serving, we encounter joy through those around us. During this advent season, let us not overlook the people we see almost every day. Our serving challenge this week is to go visit your neighbor! You can take them cookies, a card or simply go say “hello.” No matter what you do, be a carrier of joy and love your neighbors well!

As we set aside time for friends and family, here are some fun ideas to help cultivate an environment of joy around you:
- Light the 3rd candle on your advent wreath.
- Go look at Christmas lights with your friends or family.
- Decorate Christmas cookies or try a new Christmas dessert.
It is often challenging to pray when we are experiencing difficult emotions. As hope has been stirred in our hearts this advent season, may we be a people who choose joy. Despite what we feel, we can joyfully pray this week full of hope.
This week we are praying for other churches and organizations within our community. We challenge you to set aside 5 minutes each day this week and declare provision and joy over our brothers and sisters serving within our community.
Our hope for this reading plan is to help you pay attention to the steadfast love of God in this important season and let that love reawaken wonder in your heart. We celebrate Jesus’ first advent as a way of waiting and hoping for His second advent.
Luke 1:26-33 (ESV)
Birth of Jesus Foretold
26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The world around us longs for peace, often not knowing it. As we step out and serve this week, may we allow peace to flow through us. We want to challenge ourselves to not forget the people in our lives we don’t see very often. This week we encourage you to video call a friend or family member who you haven’t spoken to in a while or lives far away. Allow the peace inside of you to extend to those in your lives, letting them know they are loved and not forgotten.
Advent is a great time to experience peace in your relationships through enjoying one another. Here are some ideas on how to celebrate together with your friends and family:

- Make hot cocoa and read the real story of St. Nicholas.
